Landing on an otherworldly planet in Cappadocia

Touching down Cappadocia from the azure sky is a wondrous experience; leaving me wondering: am I truly about to explore a place of such strange beauty? On the road to the hotel, rolling limestone valleys unfolded before me, with strange, cone-shaped stone pillars rising from the arid ground, creating a landscape at once rugged and surreal.

A bit weary after the long journey, my impressions of Cappadocia became somewhat hazy. I only recalled the rugged, barren rocks stretching in every direction under a parched sun, yet wrapped in the crisp, cool air of early September. As I waited to check-in at the cave hotel, I slowly began to appreciate the magic of arriving in such a faraway place, surrounded by strange marvels I had never laid eyes on before. This month in Cappadocia, the daytime is quite warm the moment you step outside, but the night always yields to a cool and gentle chill.

Many corners mirror one another, with low-rise dwellings seamlessly blending into the rocky cliffs.

The crisp, cool air is the perfect invitation to wander through Cappadocia.

This place possesses a quiet charm that is simply undeniable, doesn't it?

First, I want to talk about the cave hotel where I will be spending two nights. It is not actually a hotel hidden deep inside a cave, but rather built upon the rocky foundation of Cappadocia, using the local stone as its primary material. Stepping inside the cave hotel, you will immediately find the air noticeably cooler than outside, carrying a faintly damp scent of volcanic rock within a space that feels deeply quiet and ancient. Yet, as cool as it is inside, the moment you step out onto the terrace, you are met with the dry, crisp sun of Anatolia.

Cappadocia also holds its own charming little wonders, like the free-spirited cats wandering everywhere without being bound indoors, basking in the warm sun with a strange, profound sense of peace. There are also many treasures unique to this region, such as the whimsical little hot air balloon souvenirs found at every turn. During my time here, I also paid a visit to a gentle river, its banks softly draped with rows of willow trees.

Leaving you longing to take a small piece of this memory home.

I have so many stories I want to share about Cappadocia, but first, let us talk about how brilliant the sunset is, all the way until the moon rises. Coming from a home often clouded by fine dust and light pollution, witnessing the spectacular pink and crimson sunset here was truly breathtaking; the sky shifted with all its inherent radiance before gradually fading into a gorgeous midnight blue-violet. As the moon rose high, the stars shone down upon a legendary land wrapped in the night and twinkling lights. The murmuring call to prayer echoing across the land at a specific hour made the atmosphere feel even more sacred and special. This sight was truly so beautiful that words simply fail me... I am completely enchanted by the raw, untamed beauty of Cappadocia.

As the moon rises high, it casts an ethereal glow over a legendary land.

If there is a place that leaves me deeply contemplative, it would be Cappadocia, and it is here that I found something truly special to me...
