 I arrived at the Humble Administrator’s Garden in Suzhou , China, at around 9 am one morning in March. The sunlight was gentle, though it already felt a little warm outside. As I entered the garden, the shade brought welcome relief. Everything felt green, open and cooler than the streets outside. It was an inviting place for a slow walk. The garden was quite busy that morning. Still, there were places where I could stop and look around without feeling that I needed to move on. I had come to enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese garden. I spent about two hours walking through it, staying a little longer whenever something caught my eye. It was already quite hot, and I wanted something to eat and drink before looking around. I spent a little over an hour on lunch nearby and a short walk through the street. My first impression was how busy and colourful it was. Shop signs, food displays and the smell of cooking kept drawing my attention in different directions. After the green spaces of the garden, this felt like another side of Suzhou, full of people and things to see.
