I hadn't planned to arrive this way. Cat Ba , an island I had looked forward to for weeks, greeted me in shades of grey. The sea looked nothing like the photos. The streets were nearly empty. But then the doors of Hôtel Perle d'Orient slid open, and just like that, everything shifted. The Lobby, and the Exhale The lobby alone was enough to make me exhale.
