The Quiet Rhythm of Lake Ashi: Finding Simplicity on a Sunless Day in Hakone

Lake Ashi is one of the most famous travel icons of the Hakone region, located in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. This lake possesses an incredibly peaceful and soothing beauty, making my heart feel lighter and unhurried. The lake is embraced by lush green mountains, creating a sense of a vast and extremely open space. Today is a sunless day, yet Lake Ashi is beautiful in a different way. It is a quiet, distant lake, with no bustle to be found here, only a serene and flat water surface stretching as far as the eye can see.

Strolling a short distance along Lake Ashi, I find life here quite simple, without many restaurants or shops, only a few local houses and not many tourists. The roads in Japan remain clean in an admirable way. I have a feeling that the people here truly live in harmony with nature, free from worries, free from haste, and everything unfolds gently with the flow of time.

This lakeside road possesses a strangely beautiful sense of peace.

I do not visit all the sightseeing spots around the lake but only quietly walk at a very slow pace past the path leading up to the ancient shrine. Yet, one thing that surprises me is that the drain or water ditch here is strangely clean, with fish swimming freely inside, something that cannot be found in my country. Even in an unnoticed corner of Lake Ashi, the life of small creatures still takes place, beautifully so. It is truly worth spending time to admire.

Even wandering here for the entire day, my heart still finds endless comfort.

The water of Lake Ashi is also remarkably pure and clean, with only small patches of fallen leaves and not a single piece of trash. If possible, I would love to sit here for hours to watch the tranquil lake surface, quietly waiting for time to pass within my own perception of a beautiful destination in Japan.

Glancing at the scenery on both sides of the road, with the vast lake surface on one side and a sparsely traveled path on the other, making room for a certain part that is very Japanese, you will feel just how simple life can be.

I kept finding small reasons to stop on the way to Kiyomizu-dera. There was a plant beside a wooden doorway, a neat row of pottery inside a shop, and a tiled roof above a quiet stretch of road. The Storm, the Sea, and One Very Warm Night at Hôtel Perle d'Orient Cat Ba

I hadn't planned to arrive this way. The ferry had barely docked before the sky opened up, rain falling sideways, wind loud enough to drown out everything else, the kind of storm that makes you question the entire idea of travel. There are places you stumble upon almost by accident, and places you choose deliberately. Blue Lagoon Cat Ba was somewhere in between for me, a quiet corner of the island that I had read about briefly, bookmarked without much thought, and then found myself grateful for in ways I hadn't expected. The cable car ride to the island was an experience in itself. Getting there was part of the experience itself. I rented a car from Hanoi , taking the road toward the Sunworld Cat Ba Cable Car . The cable car ride alone was worth the detour.
